bon voyage

by Craig | October 31, 2009 | In airports, boats, oysters, velour 1 Comment

I don’t have much time. I’m leaving for the port of Miami in an hour. A cruise awaits us. I felt like I should send all my loyal readers a little love before I go and say that I will be away from the blog for a little over a week. In fact, I’ll be away from all communication for a week. I’m refusing to pay the outrageous internet charges on the boat and to be honest I think it will be a nice change of pace. Before my big bon voyage, I wanted to leave you with a few things I’ve noticed during my first 24 hours of my trip.

1) It really is a small world. My friend Shane was on a shuttle from his hotel to a restaurant that we were eating at. He chatted up a group of people and talked them into eating at the same place. Ends up that I know half the group from my hometown in Mississippi.

2) Our society now needs instructions on hand washing posted in public restrooms. In fact posted above each urinal. I guess any reading material is good reading material.

3) Smaller airports have brought a small ray of light into my heart.

4) Waitresses dressed as angels will not allow you to eat a raw oyster that she dropped on the floor. It has a shell.

5) Miami is the city of velour jumpsuits.

6) 60 year old men dressed in drag and bearing a midrift cause quite a stir in the airport.

7) The concept of the “Fall Festival” is a hot trend. I have no comment.

I leave you for the week with another classic video from Vintage 21.
